Linking the cycle-friendly city of York with the old town of Selby in the Vale of York across flat, arable land (and passing the Terry's of York chocolate factory - breathe in those smalls!).
The Route: York - Riccall - Selby.
Distance: 15 miles one way. 30 miles both.
Start: Ouse Bridge (railway station side) in the centre of York at the junction of Skeldergate and Micklegate. Follow Skeldergate southwards 'Bishopthore, Selby' then bear first left onto Terry Avenue to stay close to the river and pass beneath Skeldergate Bridge. This becomes a no through road. Follow the red tarmac path as it swings away from the river. Cross the road, cross the race course and follow signs for Riccall and Selby.
Parking: The route can be picked up from the Tadcaster Road Park and Ride. Or in Ricall village or Selby.
Surface & Hills: Tarmac. Good gravel path. No hills.
Roads & Road Crossings: Traffic-calmed roads in York, quite lanes through Ricall and into Selby.
Links or other nearly trails: The York to Beningbrough Route, which forms part of the National Cycle Network from Hull to Middlesbrough. There is another railway path in the centre of York (the Foss Island Railpath) which runs eastwards from 3 miles from the Wigginton Road (B1363) near to the hospitals to Osbaldwick.
